The isomorphism problem for modular group algebras

Abstract: Suppose that two finite p-groups G and H have isomorphic group algebras over the field with p elements. Are G and H isomorphic? This is a simple problem which is known for more than half a century, and it is known to be notoriously hard. Recently this problem has been drawn attention again and striking progress was made. I will present a short history of the problem, explain some primary techniques, and touch upon my latest work with Leo Margolis and Mima Stanojkovski.
